Approved Fire Protection – Our Story

Approved Fire Protection Co. is New Jersey’s oldest family-owned, full-service fire protection and safety equipment company. The Approved Fire Protection establishment sits on two adjoining industrial sites in South Plainfield, NJ and operates 20 service vehicles and employs 50-100 people. Our services include fire extinguishers, alarm systems, suppression systems, SCBA, gas detection, carbon dioxide, oxygen, sprinkler systems, and so much more.

Fire Sprinkler Technician

Job Summary: Approved Fire Protection is looking for an experienced Service Technician for Fire Sprinkler Systems. This is a great opportunity for someone who can handle working on all types of piping networks including sprinklers and suppression systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform installations, repairs, testing and inspections of wet/dry/pre-action sprinkler systems;
  • Follow Safety procedures and guidelines;
  • Ability to lift, carry and move pipe, valves;
  • Ability to show up to work and appointments in a timely manner;
  • Must be able to use ladders and use lifts;
  • Repair Sprinkler Systems: Groove pipe, thread pipe, replace valves, heads;
  • Generate correctly and legibly inspection certificates and related paperwork;
  • General Knowledge of NFPA 25 and NFPA 13;
  • Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure satisfaction;
  • Provide lists for fabrication and coordinate between the trades.

Qualifications:

  • Field experience with at least 1-3 years hands on experience in Sprinkler Inspection/Repair
  • Current possession of (or willingness to obtain) a DOT HAZMAT endorsed driver’s license;
  • Current possession of (or willingness to obtain) a NICET level I or II certification
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record;
  • Must be willing to travel as required to project field locations;

Fire Alarm/Suppression Technician

Job Summary: Approved Fire Protection is looking for an experienced Service Technician for Fire Alarm/Special Hazard Systems. This is a great opportunity for someone who would handle all types alarm systems including, building alarms, releasing panels and suppression systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform installations, repairs, testing and inspections of fire alarm and special hazard systems;
  • Follow Safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to lift, carry and move cylinders.
  • Ability to show up to work and appointments on time.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and use lifts.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Prior experience in the fire protection / sprinkler industry or a related field;
  • Ability to be proactive in communicating and working with other departments;
  • Good client interaction skills;
  • Current possession of (or willingness to obtain) a NICET certification in Fire Alarms and or other discipline(s);

Qualifications:

  • Field experience with at least 2-3 years hands on experience in Fire Alarm/Suppression industry;
  • Current possession of (or willingness to obtain) a DOT HAZMAT endorsed driver’s license;
  • Current possession of (or willingness to obtain) a NICET level I or II certification in fire alarm and or other discipline(s);
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record;
  • Must be willing to travel as required to project field locations;
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background and random drug tests;
  • A willingness to cross train in sprinklers and special hazards is preferred/ required.
