An automatic sprinkler system is a network of pipes and regularly spaced sprinkler heads normally located at roof/ceiling level that is connected to a source of water. In most configurations, the sprinkler head is sealed closed by a mechanism (typically a glass bulb) that is designed to release when heated to a set fixed temperature, allowing water to discharge, strike the sprinkler head’s deflector and form an umbrella-like spray pattern over the fire. Each sprinkler head operates independently. In most cases a flow switch is integrated with the system. When the flow switch detects the flow of water, it sends an electronic signal to the building alarm system which then sounds an audible alarm and notifies the fire department that the system has been activated.
On November 21, 1994, a new Underwriters Laboratories test standard entitled UL 300, Fire Testing of Fire Extinguishing Systems for Protection of Restaurant Cooking Areas went into effect. This new standard is the result of changes in fire hazards involving commercial cooking equipment.
Approved Fire Protection will only install, service, and maintain NFPA 17A-UL300 approved WET CHEMICAL Kitchen Suppression Systems
CLEAN AGENT SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS
Approved Fire Protection began installing clean agent systems in 1956. We understand that high value and sensitive areas require a different approach to fire protection. Whether you need to protect priceless artwork or valuable computer data, clean agent systems are designed to quickly suppress a fire while minimizing the damage that can be caused by water based sprinkler systems. This means reduced collateral damage AND a rapid recovery after a fire. AFP services, installs and repairs many of the clean agent systems on the market.
SPECIAL HAZARD FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS
Environmentally friendly. The preferred fire suppression system for vital facilities that cannot afford fire-related business interruption of process controls, automated industrial operations, robotics, etc. Active on fire, but inert on people; non-toxic when used per NFPA Standard 2001. Safe, no-residue protection for Class A, B and C fires. Every Kidde system checked for design accuracy. Designed for maximum protection with minimum hardware, less space, lower cost. UL Listed and Factory Mutual approved.
Kidde Engineered Fire Suppression System Designed for Use with 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid is engineered to provide clean, fast, people-safe protection for applications requiring a “green” solution to fire suppression. The system includes detectors, a control unit, agent storage cylinders, piping and discharge nozzles. The system is computer calculated to provide system discharge within 10 seconds.
The Kidde Carbon Dioxide Fire Suppression System is an engineered system available in three application configurations: total flooding (for unoccupied areas), local application or hand-hose line. System includes detectors, a control unit, agent storage cylinders, piping and discharge nozzles. Gaseous carbon dioxide rapidly suppresses fire by a combination of cooling and oxygen displacement. Discharge duration and agent flow rates are customized for the individual application.
Dry Chemical Systems provides 24-hour fire protection for a wide variety of industrial processes, equipment, machinery, and paint spray booth applications. The system has the choice of two dry chemical agents effective on Class A, B and C fires. Total flooding or local application design options. The system includes detectors, a control unit, agent storage cylinders, piping, and discharge nozzles.
Approved Fire Protection will install, flow test/ service, and repair as per NFPA 24 standards private Fire Hydrants.
Victaulic Vortex™ is a dual agent fire extinguishing system designed for use in water sensitive facilities from data centers to power generation plants. With 95 years of fire safety product innovation as a foundation, this method is a revolutionary water and nitrogen fire extinguishing system for special hazards. This advanced fire protection device resolves issues inherent in most other systems for facilities with contents that could be destroyed or rendered inoperable by water damage.
Through water droplets smaller than white blood cells and a naturally occurring gas – nitrogen, discharged from a single emitter, Victaulic Vortex™ hybrid fire suppression system efficiently absorbs heat and reduces oxygen to extinguish fires.
Fire alarm detection and notification systems are an essential element for providing comprehensive fire protection. Approved Fire Protection installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs all types of fire alarm systems. We are a certified distributor of Notifier and Silent Knight and have experience with all major fire alarm and combination security life safety panels, including:
We also install VESDA – Clean Room & Open Space Smoke Detection systems.
AFP provides, at a low cost, Central Station Monitoring services to our customers. Central Station Monitoring monitors alarm systems, devices and respond to critical events occurring from your alarm systems. The Central Station Monitoring service may also provide watchman and supervisory services. Your control panel registers an emergency event and sends a signal to the central monitoring station, where the appropriate authorities are notified, and information is sent to an appropriate individual at your facility and/or the police and fire department.

Common Fire Suppression Release Systems are activated by Fire Alarm Panels: Preaction System — allows the sprinkler system to flood and spray water once it loses air pressure. Clean Agent Fire Suppression systems are triggered to release the agent by many types of releasing panels. With the early detection capability of the agent release hazard, the fire should be extinguished before the clean agent, preaction or deluge system is activated. AFP offers many of the major manufacturers release panels.
